Synopsis:
Ah Bee goes on a comedic odyssey through Tiong Bahru Social Club, a data-driven project to create the happiest neighbourhood in the world. Little by little Ah Bee’s encounters with the neighbourhood’s residents reveal the absurdity of life.
Director’s Biography:
Tan Bee Thiam is a director, producer, writer and editor. He directed the short film “Kopi Julia”, which was personally selected by Apichatpong Weerasethakul for Sharjah Biennial 2013. He co-directed “Fundamentally Happy” (Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2015), a film adaptation of the 2006 award-winning play by Haresh Sharma and Alvin Tan and was shot by Christopher Doyle. His debut solo feature “Tiong Bahru Social Club” premiered at the Busan International Film Festival and was the Opening Film of the Singapore International Film Festival 2020. It was also in the main competition of the festival. An alumnus of Berlinale Talents, Rotterdam Lab, and European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE), he works closely with the independent film collective 13 Little Pictures and produced Daniel Hui’s “Demons” (Berlinale 2019) and “Snakeskin” (2015); Lei Yuan Bin’s “03-FLATS” (2014); Liao Jiekai’s “Red Dragonflies” (2010) and Yeo Siew Hua’s “In the House of Straw” (2009).
